Durga Ma is usually depicted as a fierce warrior goddess riding on a lion or a tiger, carrying weapons in her multiple hands, and slaying demons or evil forces.
The story of Durga Ma is associated with the victory of good over evil, and it is said that she was created by the gods to defeat the demon Mahishasura, who had become invincible due to a boon granted to him by Lord Brahma. Durga Ma fought Mahishasura for nine days and nights and finally killed him on the tenth day, which is celebrated as Dussehra or Vijayadashami in India.
Durga Ma is also worshipped as a symbol of feminine power and strength. Her devotees believe that by worshipping her, they can overcome their fears, obstacles, and negative energies, and achieve success, happiness, and spiritual enlightenment. The festival of Navratri, which is celebrated twice a year, is dedicated to Durga Ma, and it involves nine days of fasting, prayers, and rituals in her honor.
